Hundreds of school children now hunger-free.

Free Lunch Program, the heart of Marissa's Kitchen, started its feeding activities for the school year 2008-2009 yesterday August 5, 2008 in two different elementary schools in Daanbantayan, Cebu province in the Philippines. This is the third year of the said program of North Carolina based children's charity organization, Marissa's Kitchen. Two beneficiary schools are Libertad and Malingin elementary schools, both are rural schools with a collective enrolment of about 500 school children.
The program has created various impacts in these barangays. It has helped increase the enrolment of the said schools, as affirmed by the school heads. The children also has become more enthusiastic and excited in going to school having something to look forward to seeing what's in the menu for lunch. Parents were also happy about it considering that they didn't have to worry anymore what and how to feed their children. Some parents even volunteered to help in the preparation of the food.
The free lunch program, which started three years ago provides a full meal during lunch time every Tuesdays and Thursdays and will continue until the Philippine school calendar ends in March.
